Since the introduction of the Tax Agent Services Act 2009, individuals registered as tax agents who complete quarterly BAS statements for a fee must be a registered BAS agent with the Tax Practitioners’ Board. This ensures that they have the appropriate qualifications, experience and insurance required to be able to prepare and lodge a BAS for remuneration.
Having a registered BAS agent lodge your quarterly BAS entitles you to an extension for lodgement and payment of approximately one month – see below extract from ATO web site.
The BAS agent lodgement program 2019-20 includes lodgement and payment concessions when you electronically lodge eligible quarterly business activity statements, and a lodgement concession for PAYG withholding payment summary annual reports.
